The Desert Island Lists

I often get asked what my favorite movie is. I can’t begin to explain how impossible this question is for me to answer. Even to list my five favorite films of all time would be a laborious decision, and it all depends on my mood.

There is also a distinction between my favorite films and those which I think are the best. As is only possible with true love, sometimes I prefer those with flaws over perfection. It is all about personal experience and preference which we each bring into the movie theater with us which helps us determine what we like and what we don’t. It is entirely possible to appreciate the quality of filmmaking while having personal preferences lie elsewhere.

These are my Desert Island lists, meaning that they are the films which I would choose to watch repeatedly if stuck on a magical desert island with a movie theater. Sometimes I put a film on this list because it has riches in intellectual layers, while others have touched me on an emotional level. The best films are able to manage both, and those are usually the ones to top off the lists.

Not everyone will agree with my choices, and I welcome feedback. Comments, including your own Desert Island Lists, are always welcome. Film is experienced individually, but the discussion of these differing interpretations allows for socializing and a better understand each other.
