“Outlander” is a historical drama series based on the novel series by Diana Gabaldon, which has been a remarkable success for Starz since its premiere season in 2014. The show developed by Ronald D. Moore follows a former WWII military nurse named Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe) as she is mysteriously whisked from 1945 back in time to 1793, leaving behind her unhappy marriage for a romance with Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Despite bouncing back and forth between time periods, this romance remains the central focus of “Outlander.”

Based on the sixth book in the series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, season six of “Outlander” continues the relationship of Claire and Jamie, who are now happily married in colonial America with her previous marriage ironically a thing of the past, despite technically taking place in the future. Political unrest in the colonies threatens their happiness, however, despite them trying to live peacefully in their isolated homestead located in the foothills of North Carolina. Jamie is torn between his loyalties sworn to the British crown and the newfound life they have established in America.

When a committee is formed to combat the Native Americans, it threatens the couple’s hope for peace. This season also sees the arrival of the Christie family, which reveals details about Jamie’s past in Ardsmuir Prison, adding more conflict and drama to their new home. When Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds) brings news that involves Jamie, it throws his relationship with Claire and their standing in the community into question.

All eight episodes from the sixth season of “Outlander” are available in this Blu-ray release, though a DVD and collector’s edition Blu-ray are also available for purchase. Exclusive to the Blu-ray are two new “Outlander Untold” scenes following fan-favorite characters, as well as episode commentaries and footage from the original auditions by Balfe and Heughan. There are also two featurettes, “A Look into the Animation” and “Family Matters,” as well as two blooper reels from the season’s filming.
