It is that time
of year again, which means many home entertainment releases that would be
deemed inconsequential released during any other season. These theme DVDs are a
regular occurrence year-round, but they only truly make sense with the holiday
collections. Clearly designated as a stocking-stuffer gift, this collection
comes with four Christmas-themed episodes from three popular Cartoon Network
series.
The first series
is “Adventure Time,” which has a two-part exploration into the motivation of
the evil Ice King. In “Holly Jolly Secrets, Part 1” and “Part 2,” Finn and Jake
investigate the video diary of the Ice King in hopes of discovering his future
evil plans, but end up with a clearer understanding of the villain’s
motivation. The second series and third episode in this collection is the
Christmas special from the 2010 season of “Regular Show,” involving a Mordecai
and Rigby on a mission to destroy a gift for Santa in order to save the
holiday. There was also a Christmas special for this season, which has sadly
been left out of this meager collection.
The last of the
holiday specials comes from “The Amazing World of Gumball;” simply titled
Christmas. This special from last year has the Wattersons saving Christmas
after first running over Santa Claus. This set could have included all
Christmas specials from these shows for a more complete collection, but that
doesn’t seem to be the point here. There are a few unrelated bonus episodes,
however random their inclusion may seem. There is an additional episode from
“Clarence,” and “Steven Universe,” which seem randomly selected amongst the
Christmas-themed selections.
