I think the title alone pretty much sums up this film perfectly. There can be no real aspirations for creative originality when the title immediately lets you know that the film is simply another mockbuster release from the Syfy Channel. There is little to praise about these films, but the dedicated viewers and fans of them seem to enjoy them for their filmmaking failures rather than despite them.

Some of the films created for the Syfy Channel are made by The Asylum production company based out of Los Angeles (the most popular being Sharknado), which has the tendency to rip off the name of a more successful series while creating a wholly original storyline. They are always awful, but they distance themselves from the films whose title they have taken. This Canadian-made made-for-TV movie, Independence Daysaster rips off Independence Day, with just a bit stolen from War of the Worlds as well.

This redundancy of storylines is forgivable in a genre film such as this, but the bad acting, poor screenplay, and below sub-par special effects are far more difficult to forgive. The storyline is predictably silly, involving the president (Tom Everett Scott) attempting to save the world when the attacks leave him stranded in his small hometown. Luckily he is able to find a group of hackers working out of a barn who help him stop the attacks. There are other characters and other storylines, but really, is my description of them going to make a difference one way or another? Fans of these films will enjoy this, while others are best left with quality entertainment made in more than two weeks time.
