Although I was
relieved to see that the film’s storyline was about Alfred Hitchcock’s wife and
her involvement in his career, I was disappointed by the inconsistency of the
narrative. Filmmaker Sacha Gervasi attempts too many visual and mood
references, all in a convoluted effort to insinuate Hitchcock inserted himself
into the characters of his films. The best parts of this film are the real-life
studio struggles and the subsequent marketing ploys Hitchcock used to draw
audiences into Psycho, and the
performances by stars Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren.
