Yet another vampire film arrives, but at least this one creates an original twist on the mythology to keep it somewhat fresh. And by new twist, I don’t mean skin that glitters like diamonds in the sun. This twist is small enough to stay faithful to the classic vampire mythology at the same time, adding just enough new flair without destroying what has already been established in the genre for decades.
We Are the Night begins with troubled young teen Lena (Karoline Herfurth) as she steals in order to survive. Her life is a mess, and even worse yet is the special attention she seems to be getting from an enamored young detective that chased her down. When Lena meets Louise in a club, she is caught stealing but promised a better life from the mysterious woman. What Lena doesn’t realize is what price she will have to pay for the power and glamour that Louise promises.
After being turned into a vampire, Lena comes to learn the truth about Louise. Along with two other women, they are secret vampires living in the city with a rampant night life. Only women vampires exist because of the violent nature of men vampires, and somehow we know what will eventually happen to Lena ’s enamored cop. There are many action sequences within this film, but it is also a little bit of a romance. It hits all of its marks fairly dead on, and is overall entertaining and elegant.
