Jackie Brown Blu-ray review

The critics loved Jackie Brown, because it was Quentin Tarantino’s most mature work, though still utilizing his familiar non-linear, dialogue-filled style of filmmaking. The characters still seemed to inhabit the same world as those in Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction, but Jackie Brown felt a bit more grounded in reality. There is ugliness even in the humor of Jackie Brown, a crime film filled with unsavory characters and a heist begging to go wrong.

Once again pairing a group of lowlife criminals together and the resulting explosive behavior, Jackie Brown has a stewardess (Pam Grier), a gun-runner (Samuel L. Jackson), a bail bondsman (Robert Forster) , an ex-con recently released from prison (Robert De Niro), a federal agent (Michael Keaton) and a stoner beach bunny (Bridget Fonda). All of these characters are out for the same score of a half million in cash. This is a quieter crime film for Tarantino, but that does not mean it is without moments of unpredictable violence.

With a high definition transfer which was personally supervised by Tarantino and all of the special features from the Collector’s Edition DVD release all on one disc, this Blu-ray is a must-have for fans. There are no new special features, but there are still over three hours of features from the DVD. There are retrospective interviews which are great, along with tons of old footage from the cultural impact of the film, which was minimal compared to nearly every other Tarantino film.
