I’m not quite certain why the title has all of the words pushed together without spaces, but the concept from the film which the title is taken from is quite beautiful. There are many ideas and moments within happythankyoumoreplease which are charming and uniquely touching. The film is filled with quirky and flawed characters, though not so much that they are unlikable, as has become the case for some styles of independent films these days.
Written, directed and starring Josh Radnor of TVs “How I Met Your Mother,” happythankyoumoreplease follows the romantic entanglements of a group of friends living in New York City . This may sounds similar to the popular show that Radnor become known on, and in some ways it is. Aspiring novelist Sam Wexler (Radnor) has his world turned upside down when he meets a young boy named Rasheen on the subway. Rasheen refuses to go back to social services, having been passed around in foster homes since a young age, so Sam brings him home.
At the same time that he gives a very loose attempt at fatherhood, Sam begins wooing an aspiring singer named Mississippi (Kate Mara), asking her to move in with him for several days of playing house. The film also diverges to the romantic troubles of Sam’s friends, including Annie (Malin Akerman) who isn’t attracted to the nice guys, and Mary-Catherine (Zoe Kazan) and Charlie (Pablo Schreiber), a bickering couple who have trouble with communication.
